About Us

Our History & Purpose

The St. Andrew Old Girls Association (SAOGA) Jamaica was founded in 1931 – six years after the School’s founding. SAOGA GA Chapter was established in 2009 to support educational initiatives of our alma mater through fundraising efforts; and to strengthen alumnae commitment and unite former students in the Atlanta metropolitan area.  Our first meeting was held on March 14, 2009 in Loganville, with 9 people. Our first Executive Team was elected and the decision was made to focus on the Welfare Fund and the Scholarship initiative for needy students. Shortly thereafter, we registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and began exploring fundraising options. We had an official launch on May 16, 2009 as a Fun Day and Picnic at Rhodes Jordan Park.

The current student  population at the school in Kingston, Jamaica is approximately 1500 students, ranging from grades 7 to 13. The Georgia chapter provides financial support for numerous projects including: the school’s free breakfast program; supplies for the counseling department; welfare assistance for needy students, funding towards the school bus; equipment for science labs; renovation of the faculty lounge; equipment for the canteen; computers for the computer labs; books for the library and individual tuition, uniform scholarships and tablets for online learning.

Our Initiatives

Scholarships:  We provide 4 scholarships to students which includes contributions towards uniforms, lunch money and school fees.  Scholarship recipients are selected by the Guidance Department.

Welfare Fund: The Guidance Department identifies students who are in need of financial assistance. This assistance includes food, bus fare, toiletries, laptops and tablets.  As a chapter, we donate funds throughout the year to help provide for daily and weekly needs, seasonal baskets, and end of term baskets.  Our contributions also go towards funding students’ needs over breaks and summer holidays.  If traveling to Jamaica, we encourage you to reach out to us if you are able to take a package of toiletries to donate towards this ongoing efforts.

School Initiatives:  Working collaboratively with the SAHS Foundation, SAOGA GA supports fundraising initiatives and projects that ensure that the school has the financial resources to maintain the legacy of high quality education.
